This photographic copy - given by the Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery (QVMAG) - is of an original oil painting attributed to colonial artist Frederick Strange, transferred by Saint John’s to the QVMAG in 2010 on a 20 year loan. This was extended in 2012 to 100 year period. Ownership of the painting remains with Saint John’s. QVMAG inwards loan agreement 2010/IL/9
 
Historical Details
The Reverend William Henry Browne, LL D, was rector of St John’s Church from November 1828 until June 1868. The artist Strange was active as a portrait painter in Launceston from 1841 to 1848, and the portrait suggests this was Browne during that period, while in his 40s.
