Historical Details
A financial agreement with the then Colonial Motor Inn next door (in the former Grammar School building) resulted in the St. John's hall being partly demolished and converted into motel units which have been leased by the Inn ever since. Capital raised through the transaction enabled the building of the (then modern) Parish Centre between the church building and rectory. A closer look at the construction methods will reveal the budget nature of the building, which is nowadays showing its age and deficiencies.
At around the same time, the Memorial Garden was built along the north side of the nave. It has since been joined by a columbarium - both being used for the deposit of cremation ashes of deceased parishioners.
