1914 St. John's Souvenir of Old and New Churches

Identifer
ASJ2023.19

Physical Description
Published to celebrate the building of the new dome, transepts, chancel and vestries of St. John's, it is possible that this high quality production was intended for sale.
Historical Details
Likely the first "history" booklet published by St. John's Church, it includes a list of incumbent ministers from 1818 onwards, and "A Concise History of the Old Church and Parish", although some of the assertions have been challenged in more recent years, particularly that Governor Arthur had ruled a line across the plan for a much longer building.
A detailed account of the stages of building is included.
A listing of early "seat holders" is followed by lists of incumbents, curates, wardens and organists for the entire period since the foundation of the parish.
Further lists include gifts and memorials, many of which were the new stained glass windows for "the extension".
