Historical Details
The earliest images of St. John's Church were drawings and paintings, although the only accurate hand-drawn images of the building in our hands date well into the photographic era. Early photographs give a glimpse of the interior of the building, particularly the views to the east into the chancel, built in 1866, and including the magnificent Cameron memorial window, which can still be seen today in its later location above the south side of the nave. Of note is that a very tall pulpit was part of the earlier church, removed after 1887, perhaps to allow a better view into the chancel area. It was likely tall to allow the preacher to be closer to the level of any of the congregation seated in the galleries.
