Among our historical treasures, a box of glass plate negatives, thankfully captioned, included this remarkable sequence of photos taken during the annual Sunday School "treat" (picnic) held in 1900 at the then Elphin Showgrounds. They are extraordinarily candid compared with the stiff and unsmiling portraits we so often associate with the era, and highlight that children and young people of the day were very much like those of recent times.Materials
