JOSEPH CHARLES GENDERS
CARVED AND PRESENTED BY HIS DAUGHTER ADA LILIAN BARRETT
Historical Details
William Genders died in 1901. See linked biography. The prayer desk, while not dated, likely dates to the time of the fitting out of the new side chapel towards the end of the construction period - 1901-1911. His daughter Ada, who went on to marry William Rothwell Barrett (later Assistant Bishop of Tasmania) was evidently a skilled carver, likely learning as part of the Arts and Crafts movement which flourished in the early decades of the 20th century.
