Curiously, an early photograph confidently dated to the 1920s appears to show a much wider section of the panelling on either side of the reredos than exists today, dated well before the 1937 faculty. No explanation has come to hand. Is it possible that these are painted design boards affixed in anticipation of the mosiac panels? See linked photo.

Historical Details
Alfred Beck, who died in 1903, and his wife Eliza, who died in 1941, were members of St. John's Church. See linked biographies. The memorial panels were given in 1937 by Frank W. Beck, and a diocesan faculty (permit) was issued 7 Jul 1937. As this pre-dates the death of Eliza Beck, it suggests the panels may have been a memorial to Alfred Beck only at that time.Curiously, an early photograph confidently dated to the 1920s appears to show a much wider section of the panelling on either side of the reredos than exists today, dated well before the 1937 faculty. No explanation has come to hand. Is it possible that these are painted design boards affixed in anticipation of the mosiac panels? See linked photo.
