Historical Details
The Parish Centre was built during 1974, and dedicated in March 1975. It was partly funded by a generous bequest by the late Laurence Denham, who died in 1971, and by a complex financial arrangement through Hosken Developments, in which the existing hall was largely demolished, and replaced by a block of motel units, ownership of which remains with St. John's Church, but leased by the Colonial Motor Inn (now Quality Hotel Colonial) to the present time.
It has been earmarked for demolition and replacement on more than one occasion since 2000, and included in one of the stages for the redevelopment of the campus under way early in 2024, but funding is likely to remain an issue.
The intention to demolish has led to some neglect of repairs since the early 2000s.
