Historical Details
There were efforts from the very beginning of St. John's Church in the 1820s to establish Sunday School. The first known references to a Sunday School at St John’s feature in the journal of Chaplain Browne who wrote on 7 November 1830 that he ‘gave notice for Sunday School being opened this day week’. Our earliest specific records date from the 1840s, but before that time, there were also interdenominational efforts to give children Sunday School teaching. The linked article gives some insight into this period.
