Historical Details
The rebuilding of St. John's Church Launceston was being proposed from as early as the 1870s, because the original building was deemed to be too small. After various proposals and designs, work finally got under way in 1901, and these documents provide an insight into individual workers, contractors and suppliers of the time. Hugh Cunningham, the carver of many of the exquisite features of St. John's, is among those contracted to carry out work on the site.
