Physical Description

ASAC C2B large box 17

There are some records of lists of people in the large “omnibus” volume:
Articles of Inquiry** , Confirmee Lists etc 1829-1864, Diocesan Statistical Returns 1865-1891, Annual Meetings 1857-1920 Fees - 1829-1891 which is part of ASJ2025.02 - ASAC C2B (open shelved item) including confirmees and perhaps “seatholders”, the latter being important as the fee for an allocated seat was an important part of parish revenue.
Some seatholder spreadsheets from the 1830s onwards are listed in the online Index of Correspondence, linked below.
By 1890, other lists and directories began to appear, and eventually, by the 1980s, card indexes were the main means of recording details of parishioners. These in turn were superseded in the early 2000s by electronic databases, including Microsoft Access, a Filemaker based system introduced by Ross Nicholson, in turn replaced by the Pastoral Care database after 2010, and then Elevanto, which was current at time of writing (2025). The latter had the advantage of being fully “cloud-based”, and was more suitable for the “distributed” nature of the All Saints Anglican Network which encompassed St. John's from 2019.
