Historical Details

The Sunday School movement began in Britain in 1785. The first evidence of Sunday School in Launceston is from Revd Browne's journal, indicating that he visited the Sunday School in 1831.

By the late 19th century, the Sunday School was run very much along the lines of regular schools, with bells to indicate the start and end of lessons. The bells were likely used in the main Sunday School and kindergarten respectively.
