Biography
Isobel Vera Smith (1894 - 1969) was born at Colebrook, Tasmania, on 19th March, 1894, one of three children born to John James Ochiltree Stuart and Alice, formerly Rumney. The Stuarts emigrated in the 1840s and the Rumneys in 1822.

Isobel attended the Colebrook State School and possibly the High School in Hobart. She trained as a nurse at the Royal Hobart Hospital and nursed for many years including World War I. On 22nd August, 1922, Isobel married Roy Smith, son of Sydney Herbert and Grace Smith of Hobart. They had one son, Ian. Isobel was a keen and very successful gardener. She was on the Board of St. Luke's Hospital for several years and was a member of the National Trust and Inner Wheel.

Roy, her husband, was a noted architect of the firm of Smith, Willing & Newman. They attended St. Aidan's Church where Isobel was a member of the choir for thirty years. She was also a member of the Red Cross Society and during World War Il was a member of the Comforts Fund.

Isobel died in July 1969 and in her memory her husband gave to St. Aidan's Church a stained-glass window picturing 'St. Luke' with an inscription reading:
"TO THE GLORY OF GOD AND IN MEMORY OF ISOBEL VERA SMITH, LOVED WIFE OF ROY SMITH DIED 19TH JULY, 1969."
