Biography
Ernest Arthur Lakin (1869 - 1952) was born in Launceston on 6 Dec 1869, the sixth of seven children of Frederick Lakin (1825-1889), draper, and his wife Emily Friend (1831-1912). Ernie, a commercial traveller selling insurance policies, married Ada Mary Burbury in Launceston on 28 Jan 1893. Their daughter Dorothy Abbott was born on 2 Nov 1893 and son Noel Ernest was born on 23 Aug 1895. Ernie was an inaugural committee member of the Commercial Travellers' Association of Tasmania in 1900-01. The family moved to Hobart in the 1920s where Ernest became a noted local figure.
Ernest died aged 83 on 28 Aug 1952 and was cremated at Cornelian Bay the following day. His wife Ada predeceased him, passing away on 7 Dec 1946 aged 77.
