Launceston Church Grammar School

Organization, P042
Biography
Opened in June 1846, Launceston Church Grammar School is reputed to have the longest continuous history of any school in Tasmania. First located in George St. Launceston, it moved to premises now occupied by Colonial Motor Inn, adjoining St. John's Church and Sunday School in Elizabeth St. Until the school moved to its new Mowbray campus in 1924, St. John's Church was an integral part of its life, and from 1911, the new side chapel in St. John's became the Grammar chapel.
