Biography
The Reverend Alfred G Reynolds (1906-1996) served as locum tenens of St. John’s in 1981. His time at St. John's, though short, is remembered for his fervent preaching - pleading with the congregation to put their faith in Jesus Christ.
Reynolds had served as the rector of St. George's, Battery Point, from 1952 to 1971.
An accomplished artist, both landscape and portrait, his portrait of Revd. Harry Ikin is held in the collection of St. John's Church, Launceston, and he also produced a sketch of the building that was used as the church logo for a number of years. His works are held in high regard, and he is listed in more than one catalogue of Australian artists. A collection of his sketches of Battery Point, published in the regular newsletters of St. George's in the late 1950s and early 1960s, can be viewed online.
