This booklet is the latest revision of a number of versions of The History of St. John's Church Launceston, a publication that has its roots in 1914 St. John's Souvenir of Old and New Churches. Copies are usually available at the back of the church building for a small donation.Historical Details
There is some suggestion that the earliest extant published history of the church, the linked 1914 “souvenir”, may have been produced as a fundraiser to assist in paying off the large debt associated with the massive extension of the building opened in 1911, which at that stage, still needed some expensive compteting works.
While there is not a complete progression in our collection, we do have examples of a much shorter leaftet that was updated each time there was a new incumbent rector, from the 1930s onwards.
