Meeting, perhaps parish annual general meeting, taken in schoolroom (old Sunday School building) at Saint John’s. Not synod, as the majority of men are wearing non-clerical collars. Likely around about the turn of the 20th century. Embossed "Spurling Launceston".

Picnic outings, even after a day at work or school, were popular in the first half of the 20th century. This outing, likely to the Gorge or Punchbowl in Launceston, is probably one of the St. John's Bible Classes. Some of the young men also appear in the next photo titled '1904 St. John's Bible Class', which suggests the person in centre could be Harold Blake Brownrigg who apparently led the Bible Class. See 1936 photo of Brownrigg in this collection.
Photograph, possibly in City Park conservatory, of nine young men with caption, “Presented to H. B. Brownrigg Esq. From the Bible class boys of Saint John’s School. With compliments of the season. 1904."
